Bus brawl 'involving youths, driver and elderly passenger'

Watch the moment a brawl broke out on a bus in Oldham - involving a gang of youths, the bus driver, and an elderly passenger. A man was dining in Shimlas restaurant in Oldham, Greater Manchester, when he spotted the chaos unfold on the bus across the road. The bystander, who wishes to be known only as Mohammed, spotted the scenes unfold on the Bee Network's 409 Rochdale bus on the evening of December 7. In the video a man was seen punching the driver - leaving him with a wrist injury - before an elderly passenger got involved too. Mohammed, who is not from the area but was visiting a friend, said: "The bus stopped and the alarms were blazing. "When I looked over, it seemed there was a youngster in the driving seat. "There was a bit of a scuffle and then it looked like an elderly gentleman, a passenger, got involved too. "I was watching thinking, 'what?'. I'm not sure what happened. "The bus driver called the police and the youths ran off. But the brawl probably happened for a further two minutes after I stopped filming." A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson confirmed they were called shortly after 7.30pm on Sunday 7 December to reports of an assault on King Street. The spokesperson added: "A man in his 50s suffered minor injuries and enquiries are ongoing. "Currently the suspect hasn't been identified so enquiries remain ongoing." Nick Fairclough, TfGM's Interim Deputy Director of Bus, said: 'We are aware of an incident that took place on a Bee Network bus in Oldham on Sunday evening, resulting in the bus driver sustaining an injury to his wrist. "Investigations are ongoing and the incident has also been reported to the police. "All our buses have CCTV and this will be shared. We do not tolerate anti-social or criminal behaviour on our bus network and the safety of our passengers, drivers and staff is always of paramount importance.' (Footage by SWNS via Getty Images)
