Rally Turkey Day 1: Citroen's Lappi leads overall

MUGLA, TURKEY - SEPTEMBER 13: Various shots of the drivers compete during Icmeler, Cetibeli and Ula stages of the World Rally Championship (WRC) in southwestern Mugla province, Turkey on September 13, 2019. Citroen driver Esapekka Lappi is leading the first day of Rally Turkey on Friday with an overall of 1:47:10.6 amid rain as the final stage approaches. "Very crazy," Lappi said after completing the SS6 in wet conditions. "First I think that it was okay and then it became muddy, it was quite slippery," he added. He said that he locked the wheels on the brake at the end of the stage where he had to go deep downhill. The rainy weather may cause drama on the last leg of the day. Icmeler 1 (SS2), Cetibeli 1 (SS3) -- the longest stage of the weekend -- Ula 1 (SS4), Icmeler 2 (SS5) and Cetibeli 2 (SS6) stages have been completed so far. Drivers will repeat Ula stage to complete the first day. After topping the SS2 and SS4 in his Toyota Yaris, Jari-Matti Latvala dropped six places in the overall standings. Lappi was the fastest in the SS3, while the other Toyota driver Kriss Meeke, who is racing for the first time in Marmaris, led the SS5. Thierry Neuville finished the SS6 in first row. The championship challengers Sebastien Ogier and Neuville gained positions on the overall timetable after the SS6, while Ott Tanak lost two places.
