Turkish factory changes production, starts making protective coveralls as virus boosts demand

ADIYAMAN, TURKEY - MARCH 22: A Turkish factory changed its production and started to produce protective coveralls for the health workers two weeks ago as the deadly coronavirus outbreak boosted demand as the deadly coronavirus outbreak boosted demand. The factory established eight months ago in the eastern province of Adiyaman recruiting more staff, rumped up production to seven days a week. Haci Osman Arslan, factory worker said they started to produce coveralls due to the soaring demand caused by the virus outbreak. “We have been sewing disposable protective coveralls for doctors and health workers for two weeks,” he said. Huseyin Arslan, the manager of the manufacturing department of the factory said they used to produce military uniforms before the virus outbreak. “But the demands for these disposable coveralls boomed after the coronavirus started to spread. When we saw the soaring demand we decide to make coveralls,” he said. Arslan also said the factory produces 4000-4500 protective suits a day, noting that they plan to make more. The factory employees are working cautiously, wearing face masks and gloves to ensure maximum hygiene during the production process. Factory owner Nuri Ulucay said 70 people were working before the outbreak. “We increased the number of workers to 100 after starting this business. We still need more staff.” Ulucay said. Turkey confirmed 947 confirmed cases and 12 more deaths from the novel coronavirus late on Saturday (March 21), bringing the total to 21.
