MS: In interview King says (about what the military gave her) “It gave me a lot of discipline: the honor, courage, commitment. I truly, truly stand by that.” INT HAMPTON, VIRGNIA MS: In the Hampton VA Medical Center intern King talks to a caller on the phone. MS: “Hampton Roads Clinical Pastoral Education Center” pamphlet. MS: King walks to her desk. EXT DAY HAMPTON ROADS MS: In interview King says “Getting to connect with my brothers and sisters in arms who understand the struggle. You get to see them to see them through their journey, and to get better, and my veterans deserve that.” STILLS: King as a high school student. EXT DAY HAMPTON ROADS MS: King says “I grew up as an only child so to really connect with others meant a lot to me.” INT MS: King’s dress uniform. INT HAMPTON ROADS MS: In interview King says (about leaving the military) “At first I was honestly depressed. I didn’t have a job for the first time since I was 18 years old.” STILL: King and her then-young sons. INT HAMPTON ROADS MS: In interview King says (about being homeless and living in her car) “To look at my sons and feel like I had failed them as a mom. My youngest son was one, so he's still in diapers--having to go into the bathrooms at Mcdonalds to change him to being afraid that someone was going to hurt us because we were by ourselves.” STILL: Insert of King. INT HAMPTON ROADS MS: King says “I was in bed for weeks and sometimes for a month. And I gotta tell you I have the best children because they never complained.” EXT DAY HAMPTON ROADS MS: King on the walkway near the harbor. INT HAMPTON 2 MS: King and a co-worker at a computer in the Hampton VA Medical Center. INT VIRGINIA MS: King and Chef Coco (ph) in a business as part of King’s marketing firm “The Gift Opener.” EXT DAY HAMPTON ROADS MS: King’s vehicle drives down a road. MS: In interview while driving her car King says her car is a “bucket of bolts” and needs some work done. MS: Morales walks with King and King’s children down a road and King reacts surprised (when she sees her family and friends). MS: King’s family and friends applaud. MS: Panning shot of family and friends. MS: Morales leads King and her children to a surprise new SUV. MS: Aerial of the SUV covered in a Today tarp.
