Obama had expressed a willingness to visit Hiroshima ever since he took office in 2009. Obama arrived in Hiroshima after attending the Ise-Shima Group of Seven summit meeting in Mie Prefecture. Accompanied by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Obama laid a wreath before the Cenotaph for the A-bomb Victims in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.
