Fatalities reported after driver plows NY crowd

NEW YORK, NY - OCTOBER 31: NYPD officers respond after reports of multiple people hit by a truck after it plowed through a bike path in lower Manhattan on October 31, 2017 in New York City. A number of injuries have been reported on October 31 after a motorist drove onto a pedestrian and cycling path near the West Side Highway in New York City. Police said the suspect exited the vehicle after striking multiple victims and another vehicle. The suspect was shot after displaying "imitation firearms", the New York Police Department (NYPD) said on Twitter. “Currently there is one person in custody. No others outstanding. All information is preliminary as the investigation is ongoing,” the police department added. It said there are "several fatalities" and numerous people injured. Police also urged the everyone to stay away from the intersection of Chambers Street and West Street and said many emergency responders are expected to be in the area that is near the Freedom Tower. A video purporting to be of the scene of the attack shows at least three victims lying on the ground.
