Senator Schumer floor remarks after hearing on Russian election interference

New York Senator Charles Schumer says the day after former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper testified on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election before the Senate Judiciary committee that former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn misled the president about his contact with the Russian ambassador and was honorable to blackmail, it is an open question whether or not the Trump administration will hold Flynn accountable under criminal law, but leaving them on the administration raises serious questions. Schumer says both political parties should be focused on the threat posed by Russian hacking activities and attempts to influence foreign elections, that Russian President Vladimir Putin will pursue whatever is good for Russia at the moment and hurts the United States the most. Schumer quotes Clapper expressing hope that the American people recognize the severity of the threat, that the very friend out the foundation of democracy is at stake, and that the wisdom of the founding fathers that worry about four an inference influence is happening now in a way that had never happened before.
