Iran denies weapon aid claims to Armenia

TEHRAN, IRAN - OCTOBER 6: Iran government rejected on Tuesday (Oct. 6) weapon aid claims to Armenia. Answering journalists’ questions in capital Tehran Iranian Government Spokesperson Ali Rabiei said it is not Iran's politics and strategy. “I have seen the evilness about this. Some of them targeting Iran’s cultural solidarity with the people of the region with their evilnesses. Arms aid or other issues by no means Iran's politics and strategy.” Rabiei said that they have always expressed Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity should be respected. “We said many times that territorial integrity of Azerbaijan should be respected and the occupied places should be emptied,” he added. Border clashes broke out on Sept. 27, when Armenian forces targeted Azerbaijani civilian settlements and military positions, leading to casualties. Azerbaijan's parliament declared a state of war in some of its cities and regions following Armenia's border violations and attacks in the occupied Upper Karabakh, also known as Nagorno-Karabakh, region. On Sept. 28, Azerbaijan declared partial military mobilization amid the clashes. Relations between the two former Soviet nations have been tense since 1991 when the Armenian military occupied Upper Karabakh, an internationally recognized Azerbaijani territory. Four UN Security Council and two UN General Assembly resolutions and many international organizations demand the occupying forces' withdrawal. Among others, France, Russia, and NATO have urged an immediate halt to clashes in the occupied region. At least 27 civilians were killed and 141 wounded in Azerbaijan by Armenian attacks so far, Azerbaijani officials say. (Footage by Eisa Mohammadi/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
