CLEAN: exterior shots Police Sergeant Delroy Smellie arriving at Westminster Magistrates Court. A riot squad officer said tonight that he hit a G20 protester with a baton because he felt threatened by her and feared for his safety and that of hiscolleagues. Metropolitan Police Sergeant Delroy Smellie, 47, said striking Nicola Fisher across the face enraged a crowd of demonstrators outside the Bank of England. He said the clash changed the mood of others and he grabbed his metal extendable baton, known as an asp, as the crowd closed in and he was left isolated.
