EU negotiations: Cameron statement and referendum date

ENGLAND: London: Downing Street: EXT David Cameron MP (Prime Minister) press conference / statement SOT - Last night in Brussels I set out Britain's new settlement with the European Union - This morning have chaired Cabinet meeting in which I updated them on special status we have secured - Cabinet agreed that the Government's position will be to recommend that Britain remains in a reformed EU - Now I want to speak directly to the British people to explain why - We are approaching one of the biggest decisions our country will face in our lifetime, to remain in a reformed European Union or to leave - The choice goes to heart of the kind of country we want to be and the future for our children - This is about how we trade with neighbouring countries, to create jobs and prosperity - Financial security for our families - How we co-operate to keep our people safe and our country strong - There will be many passionate arguments over months ahead - Individual cabinet mnisters will have freedom to campaign in personal capacity as they wish - My responsibility as Prime Minister is to speak plainly - I do not love Brussels, I love Britain, I'm the first to say there are many ways EU still needs to improve and the task of reform does not end with this settlement - I will never say our country cannot survive outside the Europe, we are Great Britain we can achieve great things - The question in this referendum is willl we be better off on our own? - We will be safer in a reformed EU to fight crime and terrorism - UK will be stronger because we can play a leading role in one of the World's largest organisations from within, helping to make the big decisions - believe we will be better off in a reformed Europe because British business will have full access to free trade single market - Leaving Europe would threaten our economic and national security - Those who want to leave cannot say if UK businesses could access single market, if jobs are safe or ho...
