Day of solidarity in Paris for illegal immigrants and against police violence

At least 3,000 people took part in a demonstration in Paris in memory of Lamine Dieng, 13 years after the death of the young Franco-Senegalese during an interrogation by the police. The case was condemned by a ruling of the European Court of Justice after the French courts had dismissed the case for lack of evidence against police officers. The demonstration crossed paths and merged with that organised in support of immigrants still waiting to obtain a residence permit. The presence of the police forces was impressive but despite some moments of tension and the slogans directed against the police condemning the disproportionate use of violence, the parade ended in order and in compliance with the security measures due to the COVID: almost all participants in the demonstration wore a protective mask. Lamine Dieng's sister took the floor during the march of the procession. A moment of prayer led by the father of the young man killed was observed at the point where, in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, Lamine Dieng was killed by eight police officers.
