Warbuton Creek Aerial Viewpoint during the wet season flooding, South Australia. - stock photo
The remote and most often dry river that winds its way through the north central state of South Australia is known locally as the Warburton Creek. When the wet season comes and the resultant water flows south, Warbuton creek is a freshwater stream. The river flows in a south westerly direction and discharges into the eastern side of Lake Eyre. It is one of the state's largest rivers, and is part of the Lake Eyre Basin. It runs along the eastern side of the Simpson Desert, and drains water from Eyre Creek, and also the Diamantina and Georgina rivers from Goyder Lagoon, carrying it into Lake Eyre during the infrequent floods.
