Two WHITE BLOOD CELLS or LEUKOCYTES--NEUTROPHIL (right) and EOSINOPHIL (left), human blood smear, 500X - stock photo
two WHITE BLOOD CELLS or LEUKOCYTES--NEUTROPHIL (right) and EOSINOPHIL (left), human blood smear, 500X. This image also shows numerous red blood cells (erythrocytes) with pale centers because of the thinness and lack of a nucleus. Both white blood cells are bilobed. Neutrophils have fine granules (granulocytes) are excellent phagocytic cells and mobilize at infection sites, eosinophils have larger cytoplasmic granules that typically stain red. Eosinophils are involved in allergic reactions and defend us against infestations of parasitic worms. Red blood cells transport oxygen.
