Funny enough, the nickname of this cactus reads exactly the same in English as it does in German. Could it be that Mother's in law are equally popular in both cultures? Within the botanical gardens of the Wilhelma there are a number of themed greenhouses. One of them is dedicated to deserts, featuring many succulent plants and cacti. Whilst the flowers are the main attraction for most visitors, I really like zooming in on the spines and to find the right angle for an interesting photo.
