De-extinction, illustration - stock photo
Infographic illustration showing a timeline of extinction for a selection of mammals and the quality of the DNA that has been extracted from specimens. Species closer to the far right of the timeline are more recently extinct and have more potential for intact DNA. A variety of methods can be used in an attempt to resurrect, at least partially, traits of extinct animals. The last surviving Pyrenean Ibex died in 2000. Its tissues were stored and in 2003 one clone was born alive, but died shortly after. It remains the only successful example of the resurrection of an extinct animal species
