Young Ivory coast farm hands pick cotton
Young Ivory coast farm hands pick cotton in a field 30 November 2007 near Korhogo around 500km north of Bouake. The cotton sector, which employs 250,000 people that inturn permit some 3 million souls to subsist, is suffering a period of crisis due to infrastructural disorganisation and corruption accentuated by unstable climate conditions. Annual production has fallen from 400,000 tonnes in 2002-2003 to 150,000 tonnes in 2007 in spite of a floor price set by hgte government for the 2007-2008 season to curb the trend.
