Base Action with Willie Mays
(Original Caption) Willie Mays, the 20 year old Negro centerfielder of the NY Giants, is shown in his second appearance at the plate in the World Series against the Yankees at the Stadium, and is lining out to Gerry Coleman of the Yanks, with the bases loaded in the third inning. Catcher Yogi Berra of the Yanks watches the flight of the ball, as does Bill Summers, the umpire. The Giants, behind the fine hurling of Dave Koslo, whipped the Yanks in the first game of the Classic, 5-1.
