Dead Sea Scrolls

The two earthenware jars in which the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. The 2,000 year old scroll from Book of Isaiah, A 2,000 year old Jewish scroll, an original page of the Book of Isaiah, is to be exhibited at the British Museum in London. It is part of the Bible manuscripts, 1,000 years older than any before known, which were found by a wandering Arab in a cave near the Dead Sea in 1947. The page was brought to London by Dr E L Sukenik, a professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Dr Sukenik said that there was evidence that other scrolls may be found in the same area. He is trying to raise £25,000 to enable a new and thorough search to be made. (Photo by Hulton Archive/Getty Images)
