The first of such events for hearing-impaired in Brazil was broadcast live simultaneously with its original version in Rotterdam. The festival was sponsored by the Dutch foundation Skyway to acompany the National Day of the Hearing-impaired people celebrated on September 26. According to theBrazilian statistics institute IBGE, as per 2000 some six million people suffer some sort of hearing deficiency in the country.
