CITYSCAPES-WASHINGTON-MARINE MEMORIAL
The Iwo Jima Memorial is silhouetted in the morning sun 27 April, 2005 in Arlington, Virginia, across the Potomac River from Washington, DC. The memorial depicting the flag raising on the island of Iwo Jima 19 February, 1945, during World War II honors all US Marines who have fallen in war since 1775. The design of the monument was inspired by the Pulitzer prize winning photograph of news photographer Joe Rosenthal.
