Fourth Layer Of Muscles Of The Sole Of The Foot, Plantar Arch, & Deep Branch Of The External Plantar Nerve

The fourth layer, the interossei, three in number, 1903. From 'Surgical Anatomy: The Treatise of the Human Anatomy and Its Applications to the Practice of Medicine and Surgery, Volume III' (1903). The plantar arch runs acoss the bases of the metatarsal bones resting upon the interossei muscles. The external plantar nerve is the smaller of the two, and accompanies the external plantar artery in the first half of its course, having, therefore, the same relations as the artery.
