Some 1,500 former workers of the multinational Standard Fruit banana company, including one (L) who claims that the pesticides used on the company's banana plantations left him partly blind, block a road near the northeastern Honduran city of Olanchito 14 February to demand compensation from Standard for various health problems, such as vision and pulmonary problems, sterility, deformed limbs. The Honduran government announced 12 February that it would look into allegations that the pesticides have caused children to be born with no brain, a condition known as anencephalus.
