Anniversary of the 'Huayllani Massacre' in Bolivia
COCHABAMBA, BOLIVIA - NOVEMBER 15: Several people with their fists raised, a symbol of the Movement for Socialism (MAS) party, on the anniversary of the 'Huayllani Massacre 2019" in Sacaba, Cochabamba, Bolivia on November 15, 2025. In 2019, during the government of former President Jeanine Anez, farmers and coca growers were attempting to enter the city, marching from the municipality of Sacaba, about 10 kilometers from the city of Cochabamba. They encountered police and military forces as they tried to cross the Huayllani bridge. The police began searching them, checking backpacks and pockets, and finding explosives and other contraband. The police began arresting some people, and the marchers defended themselves with explosives, stones, sticks, and anything else they could find. The military and police began using tear gas to disperse the crowd. Shortly afterwards, coca growers opened fire and several people were killed. (Photo by Pablo Rivera/Anadolu via Getty Images)
