Mayors Assassinated In Philippines
A Philippine flag is seen at the parking lot where Tanauan Mayor Antonio Halili was assassinated by a suspected gunman while taking part in a flag raising ceremony at the city hall grounds in Tanauan township, Batangas province, Philippines, July 2, 2018. The Philippines' Commission on Human Rights renewed calls for an end to a "culture of violence" following the assassination of two municipal mayors in a span of two days. In many of his speeches, President Rodrigo Duterte has constantly threatened local officials who are engaged in the illegal drug trade. Ten municipal mayors have been killed in the country by either police or unknown assailants ever since Duterte took office two years ago.
