People Protest Against AfD Following AfD Meeting With Neo-Nazis
BERLIN, GERMANY - JANUARY 17: A participant holds up a sign showing Austrian right-wing extremist Martin Sellner, AfD head in the state of Thuringia Bjoern Hoecke and German right-wing extremist Goetz Kubitschek among people gathered in the city center to protest against the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) political party on January 17, 2024 in Berlin, Germany. Several thousand people gathered today in Berlin in one of a number of similar protests this week across Germany. The AfD is under heavy public scrutiny following the recent revelation that Roland Hartwig, a former AfD Bundestag parliamentarian and until recently an advisor to AfD co-leader Alice Weidel, had taken part in a meeting last year with neo-Nazis, including Austrian far-right extremist Martin Sellner, at a villa near Potsdam. According to the investigative group Correctiv participants at the meeting discussed how to possibly introduce legislative measures to enable the mass expulsion of immigrants from Germany, as well as German citizens with immigrant roots and German citizens who have helped refugees. News of the meeting has prompted renewed calls for banning the AfD. (Photo by Sean Gallup/Getty Images)
