Future Queen
1909: Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (1900 - 2002), future Queen Elizabeth, consort of King George VI, wearing a fancy-dress costume with her brother, Lord David Bowes-Lyon at Glamis Castle, Angus, their Scottish home. Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (now the Queen Mother) was the daughter of the Earl of Strathmore and spent much of her childhood at Glamis castle where she later helped nurse victims of World War I. The castle has been in the Lyon (now Bowes-Lyon) family since the 14th century. It was reputed to be the scene of the murder of Malcolm II (c. 954 - 1034). Remains of the medieval castle are visible but the castle has been altered and restored throughout the centuries. (Photo by Spencer Arnold Collection/Hulton Archive/Getty Images)
