Traditional GDR soft ice cream

Kathrin Jopp of Villa Rosengarten presents a raspberry-vanilla soft ice cream, 'drawn' from an original GDR soft ice cream machine, in Frankfurt/Oder, Germany, 01 July 2015. The feedstock for the ice cream is ice cream powder - the recipe is also from before 1990 - from the brand Komet that is still manufactured today. The soft ice cream machines were manufactured from 1962 to 1992 in the Thuringian Niedersachswerfen - the then VEB Kaeltetechnik company. The company was part of the combine Ilka which stands for 'Integriertes System Luft- und Kältetechnischer Anlagen' (lit. Integrated System for air and cryogenic facilities).
