Harry Bennett Struck in Head with a Rock

In the worst riot the Detroit area has ever known, four men were killed and thirty seriously injured in a pitched battle fought with rocks and guns at the gates of the Five Rouge plant of the Ford Motor Company on March 7th. A screaming mob of over 3,000 unemployed fought with battalions of state and local police before being dispersed with tear gas and streams from fire hoses. Above photo shows Harry Bennett, chief of the Ford Secret Service who was struck on the head with a rock after he had come out of the gates waving a flag of truce at the mob. Bennett was taken to the hospital where it is feared he sustained a fractured skull.
