The Funeral Takes Place Of Bomb Disposal Expert Captain Daniel Read
TRURO, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 04: A floral tribute from widow Lorraine Read are left on the coffin of army explosives expert Captain Daniel Read who died in an explosion in the Musa Qaleh area of northern Helmand province Afghanistan as it arrives at Truro Cathedral on February 4 2010, in Truro, England. The 31-year-old from Cornwall was from 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps, part of the Counter Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Task Force and had only just returned to Afghanistan after being injured in a bomb blast in October. Capt Read was described as an experienced operator who had dealt with 32 IEDs and was in the same counter-explosives team as Staff Sergeant Olaf Schmid. Captain Daniel Reads funeral comes in the same week that two more British soldiers were killed by a roadside IED (improvised explosive device) and that it was claimed the British Army's bomb disposal regiment currently fields only 80 percent of its full strength. With roadside bombs now accounting for 90 percent of UK casualties, the Government has pledged to send hundreds more specially-qualified technicians to help deal with the threat.
