The Bulli of the East - Barkas 1000
04 February 2022, Saxony, Frankenberg: A Barkas 1000 as a fire engine stands next to its predecessors, the Barkas V901/2 also known as Framo, in the "Zeitwerkstadt" museum. Here, the history of the multi-talent with two-stroke engine is illuminated in a show. In March 1962, the "fast transporter" was presented to the world public at the Leipzig Spring Fair. A total of 175,740 Barkas were produced, as minibuses, with a flatbed, as ambulances or fire trucks. A lack of investment in successors broke the company's back at the latest at the time of reunification. On April 10, 1991, production in Hainichen was discontinued.
