Eddie Arcaro Shaking Hands With Leslie Combs
(Original Caption) Eddie Arcaro, aboard Nashua, gets a handshake from Leslie Combs, head of the syndicate which now owns the former Belair stud champion, after he outdueled Social Outcast and Sailor to cop the Widener Handicap at Hialeah Park. By taking the $92,000 jackpot, Nashua pushed his earnings over the million dollar mark to become the second horse in racing history to achieve this. Calumet's Citation was the first to crack the million dollar barrier.
