Dave Mill Explorer
Dave Mill takes a last look at his the Dewar whisky centre in Perthshire after a news conference, before setting off on a fifty day walk from Aberfeldy to the North Pole. *...Dave Mill, 33, from Kenmore in Perthshire, said horrendous conditions had forced him to call in a rescue team last night to airlift him to safety, Thursday 24 May, 2001. Mr Mill, who set out from Ward Hunt Island, Canada, on April 12 had already completed more than half of his 400 mile trek, enduring temperatures as low as minus 40C, surviving a broken ski, and ski poles, and pulling a damaged sledge - although extreme temperatures and low visability finally ended his epic journey. * Mr Mill hopes to become the first man to walk solo and unaided to the North Pole from the treacherous Canadian side. It was the route which Sir Ranulph Fiennes had to abort last year after the intrepid English explorer was ravaged by frostbite. (Photo by David Cheskin - PA Images/PA Images via Getty Images)
