(Original Caption) 2/11/57-New York: Charles Van Doren (right), the first person in television history to win more than $100,000 on a quiz show, is justifiably elated as quiz-master Jack Barry points to the sum of $138,000, which Van Doren accrued on the "Twenty-One" show February 11th. Van Doren, who makes $4,400 a year as an English instructor at Columbia, is a 30-year-old bachelor.
