David Hockney photographing the NMPFT, Bradford, 18 July 1985.

UNITED KINGDOM : British artist David Hockney taking photographs to create a 'joiner' photographic collage of the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television. Taken with a 35mm single lens reflex camera with zoom lens, Hockney hired a mechanical elevated platform (or 'cherry picker') to take the snapshots which go together to make this 'joiner'. The actual photography was carried out by Hockney on two separate days (18 and 20 July). Hockney began to put the joiner together on 19 July, but realised he needed more pictures to work with, which is why he went out a second time, on 20 July, to take more pictures. (The Museum was renamed the National Media Museum in 2007). (Photo by SSPL/Getty Images)
