Demonstration At The Presidio

At a rally in support of the 'Presidio 27' outside the entrance to the Presidio (on Lyon Street, near the intersection with Lomdard Street), a demonstrator confronts an MP (Military Police) over a stone-mounted cannon, San Francisco, California, March 1, 1969. The rally was held around the time of the military trials of the so-called 'Presidio 27,' a group of military personnel who had staged a sit-down strike at the Presidio Stockade the previous October and were charged with mutiny for their actions. The strike was in response to a variety of factors, among them deplorable prison conditions which culminated in the shooting in the back of an unarmed prisoner named Richard Bunch.
