Sportsgrounds and Playgrounds Stand Empty During Coronavirus Lockdown

AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND - APRIL 18: Aerial shot over an empty Eden Park stadium is seen here devoid of any field markings or sponsorship, with Mount Eden seen in the distance on April 18, 2020 in Auckland, New Zealand. During lockdown in New Zealand all sports; social, amateur and professional has been cancelled until further notice. New Zealand has been in lockdown since Thursday 26 March following tough restrictions imposed by the government to stop the spread of COVID-19 across the country. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Thursday announced that restrictions could be eased as of next week if the government decides to move to COVID-19 Alert Level Three. Under the current COVID-19 Alert Level Four measures, all non-essential businesses are closed, including bars, restaurants, cinemas and playgrounds. All indoor and outdoor events are banned, while schools have switched to online learning. Essential services remain open, including supermarkets and pharmacies. A decision on whether or not to lift the level four lockdown measures will be made during a cabinet meeting on Monday 20 April followed by an announcement at 4pm New Zealand time.
