Natural Ice Balls Shine Like Jewels

HOKKAIDO, JAPAN - FEB. 3: Winter weather is producing ice balls all over along the riverside and they are shining like jewel stones in northern Japan. In the early morning on February 3, the natural phenomenon was observed at the mouth of Tokachi River, in Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost main island. Lumps of ice at the mouth of the river were washed by the sea waves and they broke into numerous pieces like stones. A local photographer has named the winter gift "jewelry ice."
